Altar Boys
To be an altar server is a special honor and a great privilege in our Ukrainian Catholic Church. One can look upon being an altar server as a special and unique ministry by which you, a young person, can help to spread the word and the love of Christ through your actions and words. It is not difficult to be an altar server, but there are some things that you must remember. The primary role of the altar server is to assist the priest in the celebration of the Divine Liturgy. This is done through your specific actions; setting an example to the congregation by participating in the liturgy through crossing yourself, singing the responses of the people, looking alert, processing, sitting, standing and bowing at the appropriate times, and doing so by always remembering your love for God.
All boys ages 8 and up, having received their first Solemn Communion, are welcome and encouraged to assist the priests at the altar. If your child is interested in serving at the altar, come to the sacristy 10 minutes prior to the start of the Liturgy. The coordinators and senior altar servers will provide patient instruction to the children at this time. There are also periodic training events and outings scheduled throughout the year. Any parents who would like to offer their assistance are most welcome to contact the parish office.
Our elite group of altar servers are valuable members of the team. We thank you for your dedication and are very proud of the work you do.
